Guest blog post by Kim Bielak, Founder of National Fitness Day

Last year, in partnership with ClassPass, we started the very first National Fitness Day in the U.S. as a single day to celebrate strength and empowerment through fitness. We heard stories and fitness journeys from people all over the country, and worked with you to spread the word, host special classes, and get everyone in the community involved.

This year National Fitness Day will fall on Saturday, May 5 and we’re calling for all gyms, studios, and fit enthusiasts across the country to once again join in and help us inspire others through the very reasons that brought us to fitness in the first place.

Ready to get involved? On our site you’ll find a toolkit with everything you need, complete with social media posts, Snapchat filters, and more!

Here are just a few ways to celebrate:

Host a Dedicated Workout or Event

What better way to celebrate National Fitness Day than create something special at the studio! Here are a few ideas for how you can bring it to life:

  • Host a charity class for an organization like Girls on the Run to give back and build up some good karma. Find your local chapter and work with them to promote!
  • Host a free community class to introduce new people to your studio! Encourage members to bring friends, and get your most inspiring instructors to show them just why fitness feels so good.
  • Host a mini community event to get to know your members! Get some snacks, swag, and photo booth props, or even offer a special sale.

This year we’re encouraging people to buy shirts and wear black as a way to build some social media buzz. In the toolkit you’ll also find a Snapchat filter to upload at your location, and printable photo booth cards for members to share their stories with.

Don’t forget to submit your event on the National Fitness Day website to be included in the map of happenings across the country!

National Fitness Day is an opportunity for everyone to join in the conversation around the power of fitness and remind others of why we do what we do. Use it as an opportunity share the story of why you started, share some of the amazing stories from your community, or ask your fans to share their own!

Don’t forget to use #NationalFitnessDay!

Help us Fundraise

This year we’re excited to announce that we’ll be raising money for non-profit Girls on the Run again! 30% of proceeds from our National Fitness Day shirts will go to helping support their after-school programs, so get your instructors and participants geared up, but make sure to order by April 15 to ship in time for May 5!

Finally, consider offering to donate some or all of your proceeds from a class on May 5 to Girls on the Run or another charity of your choice. Don’t forget to tell us how much you raise, so we can include it in our final total!

National Fitness Day is an incredible time for all of us across the industry to come together, celebrate all that fitness does for our minds, bodies and souls, and go back to our missions of inspiring and empowering people to feel their best.

We’d be nowhere without you, and are tremendously grateful for your help in spreading the word and growing the movement. Stay sweaty, and see you May 5!
